Welcome to the Trenches!

pa 50th at Beaufort.JPG

Hello everyone! My name is Rusty, and welcome to the Trenches! I If you haven't noticed already, I love history, especially the history, stories and relics of both the American Civil War, and WWII. Here, you can find short stories from either conflict, relics from the battlefields and the men who used them, and of course, like any blog, random posts. I hope you enjoy your visit!

Above:

The 50th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on parade in Beaufort South Carolina, in 1862. At the time of this photograph being taken, my 4x great uncle Daniel Trautman, Co. A, was within its ranks. Later in the war, two of his brothers, Elias and Emanuel Trautman, would join its ranks.

At right is a photograph of my great great uncle Jay Troup (second from right) with his B-26 Marauder bomber crew. He was a Radio Gunner during WWII, and had various harrowing experiences.

My Official Disclaimer

1. There are many images on this site portraying WWII Germans. I, in no way shape or form condone, support, sympathize, admire or recommend any actions or war crimes perpetrated by the Waffen SS, the SS-TV, the Wehrmacht or the Nazi party or Adolf Hitler. These photographs and articles are purely for historical or educational purposes.

2. I do sympathize with the Southern fight for independence, but I do NOT support or condone slavery, or racism of any kind whatsoever. I view the Confederate soldier as a man fighting to protect his home from the federal government, fighting against Northern aggression and unfair judgement, and a man fighting simply for the naivety of youth. I do 100% admit that slavery was the ignition point for the war, but not what the common soldier fought for. This is my opinion, and if you do not agree, oh well.

3. I am a conservative, so expect a conservative viewpoint. If you do not like that, once again, oh well....

4. All relics found were done so legally, and collected ethically. In the case of Gettysburg artifacts, many of the artifacts presented were collected off of the battlefield by local residents shortly after the battle, and were done so years before the NPS made it illegal to do so.
