The German camouflage helmet in pictures

Here is a small library of the German camouflaged helmet in action, during WWII. You'll see whitewashes, repaints, tricolor camos, Italian camos, wire nets, helmet covers and other methods being employed. I don't know the information about every photograph, but I'll try to put down what I do know.

This younger soldier had a net over his helmet as it was being sprayed, to create a unique disruptive pattern over the helmet shell.

This kid has a very cool jump smock, but an even better M38 Falshirmjager helmet. It has been sprayed tan, for the Italian campaign. This photograph was taken in 1943.

It is hard to tell in this photograph, but this Luftwaffe field division officer is wearing a helmet that has had a very rough texture applied, with paint either brushed or sprayed on top of it.

These waffen SS soldiers setting up their MG42 wear an issued helmet cover. This pattern of cover was reversible for spring and fall wear.

This Eastern Front soldier wears a helmet that once had a snow camo on it, but it has since been scrubbed.

These soldiers of the 21st Panzer Division stand at attention at Normandy France, in 1944. Their helmets as well as the gun in the background exhibit the classic Normandy Camouflage that collectors all fawn over.

I believe this photo was taken during the Italian campaign, but don't quote me on that. These paratroopers all wear a camouflaged helmet, even the guy who for some reason isn't wearing an M38 helmet. Not sure what his deal is, but his helmet looks cool enough.

This decorated German appears to have moss on his helmet... odd. There are also whitewash camo remains on his helmet.

This German has the classic Italian campaign camo - a tan helmet with brush dabbed on green spots.

More Paratroopers. These guys both have painted camos on their helmets. It is hard to tell if it was brushed on, or sprayed on. The soldier at left has a net cover to attach foliage to his helmet.

A supply depot in North Africa, spraying on a yellowish tan overpaint on DAK Helmets.

A large pile of captured Afrika Korps helmets. Note the majority of them being tan camouflaged painted helmets. There are names painted on the inner skirts as well. Note the "pith" helmet on top.

AA Gunner in Russia, wearing whitewash camo painted helmets.

This doesn't belong here. I don't care.

Oberstleutnant Georg Briel wearing an Afika Korps helmet.

Soldiers with Winter camo helmets in Kharkov.

Another Winter camo helmet.

SS Soldiers with whitewash remains on their helmets.

The soldier on the left wearing the Infantry Assault Badge, has a chickenwire cover for his helmet.
